Security & Privacy

Every connection, note, project and referral belongs to your workspace alone. No one else using ReferenceOS can see your people, and nothing is published automatically. Becoming a reference is a deliberate step you take, and it can be paused or removed at any time.

A Reference Page is a link you send to one person. It can show:

• The name each reference agreed to be shown under, and their general location if they allowed it.
• A short project description, when it is turned on for that page.
• Their profile photo, when one has been added for them.
• Photos of the work itself, shown as project proof — never as somebody's portrait.
• A written story, only where that person has approved a public story.
• Only the contact routes that person allowed: call, text and email are separate permissions.

• Your other connections. A page shows only the people chosen for it.
• Your private notes, history, matching data and internal records.
• Contact details for any route that has not been permitted.
• Photos a customer contributed that you have not reviewed and approved.
• Archived or hidden photos, and anything belonging to another connection.
• Anything at all about people who were never selected for the page.

A profile photo represents a person. A project photo represents the work. ReferenceOS keeps these in different places, and a project photo can never be used as somebody's portrait. If there is no profile photo, the page shows initials rather than substituting a job photo.

Photos are stored privately, not on a public web address. When someone opens a page you sent them, the server checks that the page is still active and that the photo is permitted, then hands the browser a temporary link that expires. Turning a page off, or removing a person from it, takes their content with it.

Call, text and email are three separate choices, and a written public story is a fourth. A person who is happy to take a phone call is not automatically opted into anything else, and a page only ever shows the routes that person allowed.
